Why has my household been chosen?

As it is not possible to ask everyone to take part in the survey, we select a sample of addresses to represent the UK. Your address was selected at random from a list of private addresses held by the Royal Mail.

What is the study about?

The study is being led by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) who are examining whether the private dentistry market is working well for consumers.

Do I have to take part?

No, whilst we would really value your input, participation in the research is entirely voluntary. It is up to you to decide whether you want to take part. If you do decide to participate, you can decline to answer any question(s).

What do I have to do?

We are inviting you to take part in a survey about your experiences of dental care in the UK. The survey will ask about how you’ve accessed dental care, the kind of treatment you have had, and your thoughts on the experience. On average it takes 20 minutes to complete.

Why should I take part?

We need to hear from a representative sample of the population – meaning your views and experiences will represent others like you. Your answers will provide a picture of the current market for dental services and how well it works for consumers.

Will the answers I give be kept confidential?

Any personal information you provide will be kept secure by Verian and your anonymised survey responses will be shared only with the CMA.

If you choose to complete the survey, Verian (the data processor) and the CMA (the data controller) will be processing your personal data using the lawful basis of ‘public task’ (processing necessary for the exercise of a statutory function of the CMA under the Enterprise Act 2002). Verian abides by the Market Research Society Code of Conduct, which means that all your personal data will be kept secure and, should you participate in the research, they will share your survey responses only with the CMA. It won’t be possible for you to be identified in any of the data that Verian or the CMA shares with others, nor in any of the survey findings that the CMA makes public. How will the information collected in this survey be used?

The results of this research will be used to support the CMA market study of private dental services in the UK.
